Nobel Prize, José Saramago

Hello again readers!

This time I'm going to write about the Nobel Prizes, this prizes are given by the Swedish Academy since 1895, when the chemist, engineer, innovator, and armaments manufacturer Alfred Nobel started with the prizes, a set of annual international awards bestowed in a number of categories by Swedish and Norwegian committees in recognition of cultural and/or scientific advances.

In 1998 the Portuguese writer José de Sousa Saramago received the Literature Nobel prize, because his works, some of which can be seen as allegories, commonly present subversive perspectives on historic events, emphasizing the human factor. I  have chosen this man because his incredible rich language and the form he writes his writings or poems, here you have one of them:

Es tan hondo el silencio
"Es tan hondo el silencio en las estrellas/

Ni el son de las palabras se propaga/

ni el canto de las aves milagrosas./

Pero allá, en las estrellas, cuando somos/

un astro redimido, es donde se oye/

el íntimo rumor que abre las rosas."

Saramago was born in 1922 into a family of landless peasants in Azinhaga, Portugal, a small village in Ribatejo Province  one hundred kilometres north-east of Lisbon. "Saramago", the Portuguese word for wild radish (Raphanus raphanistrum), was his father's family's nickname, and was accidentally incorporated into his name upon registration of his birth.

This man suffered a lot when his grandfather suffered a stroke and was to be taken to Lisbon for treatment, Saramago recalled, "He went into the yard of his house, where there were a few trees, fig trees, olive trees. And he went one by one, embracing the trees and crying, saying good-bye to them because he knew he would not return. To see this, to live this, if that doesn't mark you for the rest of your life," Saramago said, "you have no feeling."

More than two million copies of Saramago's books have been sold in Portugal alone and his work has been translated into 25 languages.

A proponent of libertarian communism, Saramago was criticized by institutions such as the Catholic Church, the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, with whom he disagreed on various issues. An atheist, he defended love as an instrument to improve the human condition.

Here can see the moment when the academy gave the award to this man:

I have to mention also the man who liberate Africa and have die recently, the for ever immortal in our hearts, Nelson Mandela. He received the Peace Nobel Prize in 1993, but this important award isn't enough recognition for the incredible work that has done this man. Click here if you want more information about him.

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” — Nelson Mandela

Colaborative story

Hello again readers!

Here I left you one story that we have written with the colaboration of all the class of ICT, the story is very strange and you may found it funny and absurd, that is because when they began the story I wasn't in class, so my colleague started the tale. If you want the original story with the different colours depending the writter click here.

The legend of the river

Rigoberta was a pig with human face and body of unicorn. She liked to go to the river, and one day when she was in the river a mysterious old man started to fly. That man was called Rumaldo and he had a big problem. Rigoberta started to fly too, and she moved closer to the man.

        - What’s your problem? asked Rigoberta to the man with a serious face.

-I have a big problem, the pigcorn sect is chasing me. They want to transform me in an abomination.

Then, a mysterious fog appeared, and from inside a giant “pigcorn” wearing a tunic appeared.

       - My name is mysterious lord, join us, join our religion, become a “pigcorn”!- said the giant monster.

-No!! I want to be human.-Said Rumaldo.

-Let him go!!- Shouted Rigoberta to Mysterious lord.

Suddenly the sun set, and it started the night. More mysterious “pigcorns” appeared, and rounded Rumaldo and Rigoberta. There wasn’t escape, Rigoberta was bewildered “what’s happening?”.

Mysterious lord took Rumaldo and Rigoberta and they left their country. Four long hours later they appeared in a new world, the pigcorn world. All was of pink colour, the houses, the water, the sky, the rain and a lot of things. From the clouds baby pigcorns got born when there was a rainy weather and with sunny weather the old pigcorns get rid of the work as a pigcorn and they evaporate and disappear in the clouds. Rumaldo saw a botton and he pushed it, and suddenly the temperature increase, as far as touching the 50 centigrades and all the pigcorns were converted in flavourful popcorns for Rumaldo and Rigoberta.

On the coast of the world there was a mysterious giant screen to see films, and next to this they have a mysterious videoclub to take mysterious films and to see it them. All the pigcorns were converted on popcorns so Rumaldo and
Rigoberta started to see the films eating them.

        - Those popcorns are the best popcorns I had never taste!

-Oh yes, I go alone with you. They have a special flavour.

-Yes it seems that the popcorns had been prepared with bacon!

Suddenly, they noticed that the people of the cinema started to become in pigcorns. All the people was warried and Rigoberta and Rumaldo realised that they can’t live being pigcorns so they commit a suicide. When the real unicorns found them, they didn’t know what to do and they called to Petardona for help them.

But Petardona was a pigcorn to, so they decide to kill all the pigcorn near them. When they finished, they realised that all the people were pigcorns, so they dig a cave in a river, the same river were Rigoberta and Rumaldo met some hours ago.

¿¿Social Webs?¿What For??

 Hello again readers!

This article is directed to both bands, parents and teenagers or offspring. Here I'm going to explain the advantages and disadvantages of some social websites, I only know about Tuenti and Twitter but I hope you will find it useful.

First I'm going to explain you the general advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages:
  • You can speak with friends.
  • You are able to share pictures, videos...
  • You can meet people very easy.
  • You can speak with your far away friends.
  • You are able to make group conversations.
  • You are able to follow matches over Twitter.
Disadvantages:
  • If you have a public account strangers can see your photos.
  • The danger of ciberbullying.
  • There are many molesters in Facebook who can blackmail you.
  • The risk of the hackers.
Maybe there would be more vantage and drawbacks that some expert people can explain to you, but from my point of view those are the most relevant ones. Well, we have analyzed the good and bad things of the social websites, we have seen that there are more advantages than disadvantages but those disadvantages are very significant, moreover you can avoid these insecurities changing the settings of any of the indicated social webs, for example: Changing the account from public to private and deactivating the location sharing on Twitter, or in Tuenti you have more options of security, you can share your account and photos with whole Tuenti or give permission only to your friends (there are also more options).

If you want more information about the dangers of the net, here you have some very interesting links:
Chatdanger

Speaking about the real risks of the social webs, here I leave you one dramatic of ciberbullying and blackmail, a video of a girl that after she made the video she committed suicide:

Summarising all the things I have written, I can say that in my opinion the social websites are very useful and interesting in spite of the dangers they have, so the only thing I leave to say is... Enjoy the web and my blog!

The melody of music

Hello again readers!

I think that I'm not the only one who likes listening to music, am I wrong?

Everybody likes listening to music, but everyone doesn't have the same tastes, there are many different genres for many different people and here they will appear some of them. Personally I prefer Ska, Reggae or Rock styles, so the first mentions will be about those.

Ska
Ska is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s, and was the
precursor to rocksteady and reggae. Ska combines elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. In the early 1960s, ska was the dominant music genre of Jamaica and was popular with British mods. In my opinion, one of the best bands are: SKA-P, Vendetta...
Here you have a song by Vendetta:

Reggae:

In the genre of Reggae we have a God, a man who sings as well as the angels. His songs have the power to move thousands of people. Obviously I'm talking about Bob Marley. Bob Marley (6 February 1945 – 11 May 1981) was a Jamaican singer-songwriter who achieved international fame through a series of crossover reggae albums. Starting out in 1963 with the group the Wailers, he forged a distinctive songwriting and vocal style that would later resonate with audiences worldwide. The Wailers would go on to release some of the earliest reggae records with producer Lee Scratch Perry After the Wailers disbanded in 1974, Marley pursued a solo career which culminated in the release of the album Exodus in 1977 which established his worldwide reputation. He was a committed Rastafarian who infused his music with a profound sense of spirituality.

Rock&Roll

The legend of the Rock&Roll is considered Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977). This man was an American singer, musician and actor. One of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as "the King of Rock and Roll", or simply, "the King". If you want more information about him, click here. But personally, I prefer the Punk-Rock band ''Green Day''.
As I have said above, Green Day is an American punk rock band formed in 1987. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt, drummer Tré Cool and guitarist and backing vocalist Jason White, who became a full member after playing in the band as a session and touring guitarist for 13 years.
